Saw Game

http://kotaku.com/358097/saw-writer-talks-saw-video-game

The executive producer, and also the writer of two of the
Saw movies, is writing for a Saw game. Here are a couple quotes that jumped out at me:

"We have no idea how that is going to apply to a computer game format, considering that most games are generally pretty simple in it's plotting."

"Maybe its a good thing that Leigh and I are naive to the video game world and that we're writing it like its a movie!"

Despite claiming to be big gaming fans, the quotes don't really give me that impression. Maybe it depends on what kind of games they've been playing, but "simple" in plotting doesn't describe a lot of games that actually have a story script (whether or not they're good scripts is another matter). Simple isn't necessarily a bad term, but I would think people who like to create stories might want to try doing something
more instead of dismissing game stories as bland or simple.

Writing for a game and writing for a movie are two very different things, and I don't think it's wise to jump into one or the other blindly.

First, why make a game for a movie that has a small fan base. Second, if they honestly believe most games have a simple narrative, than their game might be pretty laughable.

This is a trainwreck waiting to happen. I can't imagine this translating properly. At best, it translates into a horribly wrong, unfunny, and disturbing version of the PC classic Dungeonkeeper. At worst, it's a poorly put together AO rated torture game that gets games in a negative light in the headlines again. Lose-Lose.

This could definitely end very poorly. Like you said, movies and games are very different. They might provide some interesting ideas but I believe the final result could get messy.
